SAN FRANCISCO – This year’s San Francisco Greek Film Festival (SFGFF) will take place March 14-21. The 23rd edition of the Festival presents eight days of in-person screenings at Delancey Screening Room in San Francisco, and a program of online screenings to allow for viewing at home, within a certain geographic region. A total of 33 films will be screened, eight narrative features, nine short narrative films, and 16 documentaries. Films in Greek and other foreign languages will be presented with English subtitles.
With over two decades of continuous events, SFGFF started in 2004, when a dedicated group of Greek-Americans combined their love for their home country of Greece and appreciation for cinema, to create an event that would present the works of contemporary Greek and Cypriot creators to San Francisco Bay Area audiences.
Filmmakers and talent from select films are expected to attend the Festival, to talk about their work with audiences. These details will be announced soon.
The 2026 San Francisco Greek Film Festival online program includes all of the in person programs, plus an additional selection of documentary films that will be available only online. Online viewing will be available throughout the United States and Canada.
All films selected for the 2026 San Francisco Greek Film Festival will be entered in competition for audience awards, as well as jury awards judged by a panel of industry professionals, with monetary prizes underwritten by sponsors.
The 2026 SFGFF poster again features a mythical symbol: the alicorn, a horse-like creature. Its horn like a unicorn horn symbolizes purity, healing, and magic; its wings like a pegasus symbolize freedom, the sky, and divine travel. Together, the alicorn represents ultimate magic, balance, or royalty; usually extremely rare and powerful.
The SFGFF opens on Saturday, March 14, with the screening of ‘Broken Vein’, directed by Yannis Economides, and the short film ‘ΝΙΚΗ (or The Impossible Hope of Trying)’, directed by Savvas Stavrou. The screenings will be followed by the Opening Night reception.
