DELANCEY STREET SCREENING ROOM
600 The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA 94107

A selection of seven (7) films. All screenings have English subtitles. A separate pass must be obtained online for each movie. Due to COVID protocols, after each movie the theatre must be cleared for cleaning, after which the next audience will be seated for the next film.

MOTHERLAND, I SEE YOU is an initiative of the Hellenic Film Academy, under the auspices of the “Greece 2021” Committee, sponsored by the National Centre of Audiovisual Media & Communication (grand sponsor), the Greek Film Centre, the Athens Epidaurus Festival, and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. With the support of the Greek Film Archive.

It is an initiative dedicated to salvaging, preserving, and screening films from the diverse Greek heritage of the 20th Century, in the context of the 200-year anniversary since the Greek Revolution.

A film festival consisting of 42 short, mid, and full-length fiction, documentary, and hybrid films, will make 21 stops in five continents. All films originate in Greek 20th Century production and will screen free of charge. The line-up will include both classic and hard-to-find films, all unique in their own way, 30 of which will be digitally restored under the supervision of the Hellenic Film Academy.

The initiative will be accompanied by a bilingual publication (English Greek) to be launched by Nefeli Publishing, where filmmakers and film theorists will instigate a dialogue with the films and the era they were made in via texts and other writings. MOTHERLAND, I SEE YOU will produce an educational film case, which will be donated to select educational institutions and libraries around the world.

We hope to see you at the movie theaters so we can discover and rediscover shadows, brilliant flashes, colors, and sound together – a country as it was lit, narrated, and redefined by the unique gaze of Greek 20th Century filmmakers.
