Second Annual San Francisco Greek Film Festival

April 16-22, 2005

Coming off the success of the First Annual San Francisco Greek Film Festival, the Modern Greek Studies Foundation at San Francisco State University proudly presents its Second Annual Greek Film Festival. This year the festival will feature seven modern Greek films beginning on Saturday, April 16th and continuing through Friday, April 22nd at the Delancey Street Screening Room. The Film Festival is a benefit for the Modern Greek Studies Foundation and is being sponsored by SBC, the Center for Modern Greek Studies, the Nikos Kazantzakis Chair at San Francisco State University, and the Greek Film Center in Athens. The Festival will kick off a national tour with the Chicago Greek Film Festival as the next stop. The Delancey Street Screening Room is located in downtown San Francisco at 600 Embarcadero Street.

The Festival begins on Saturday, April 16th, at 7:30 p.m., with a screening of A Song Is Not Enough, the story of one woman's imprisonment affecting the lives of those around her and love becoming the bond that keeps them together. A festive Greek after-party will immediately follow the film at Delancey Street. Tickets for the opening night film and reception will start at $100.

Last year's Festival was a tremendous success and raised funds and awareness for the Modern Greek Studies Program at SFSU.The past year has seen the Loss of two remarkable women with great presence in the Greek community, and we are proud to dedicate an evening to each of them. The opening night reception will be held in honor of Chrysanthy Leones, and the reception following the final film will be in honor of Anne Condas. Both long time members of the Modern Greek Studies Foundation’s board of directors, we are glad to have the opportunity to celebrate their lives. They will be dearly missed.

The Festival is comprised of seven films that represent the growing diversity of New Greek Cinema with commercial and artistic successes, but also with a sample of the up and coming independent film movement of Greece. Playing Part and Eyes of Night deal with people looking for love in all the wrong places, all the right places, and everything in between. The story of strangers crossing paths is told in Delivery, and can be seen with a new spin in the film Atlas (All the Weight Of the World). Kalabush is a touching tale of belonging and running away. All of the films will be subtitled in English.
