San Francisco Greek Film Festival Astron Award

The 12th Annual San Francisco Greek Film Festival will open on Monday 11th May and will run through Sunday 17th May 2015, at the Delancey Street Screening Room (600 Embarcadero Street, San Francisco).

The SFGFF will showcase contemporary Greek films from both established, but also up-and-coming directors who are either Greek or are of Greek descent. Feature-length films and shorts will be showcased each night, and all movies will have English subtitles.

This year’s program has something for everyone’s taste, as comedy, drama and documentaries will all be on offer. For the first time, there will also be an extra day of screenings, on Saturday 9th May, entitled ‘Short Film Blast’, where the films to be shown will be exclusively shorts. This day has been added to honour the record-high number of short film submissions this year. Moreover, the matinee slot on Sunday 17th May is dedicated to the younger members of the audience, as it consists of a children’s program.

A number of the showcased filmmakers will attend the screenings and talk to the audience about their work. Finally, SFGFF will be presenting a People’s Choice Award, the Astron Award, at the end of the week to the director whose film gets the most votes by festivalgoers. Awards will be given in both the short and feature film categories.
The following feature films will be screened during the festival:
Xenia, 2014, by Panos Koutras
Include Women Out, 2015, by Vangelis Seitanidis
Common Denominator, by Sotiris Tsafoulias
Lovestruck, 2015, by Thodoris Atheridis
The festivities will kick off with a fundraising reception on Friday 8th May at the Kokkari Estiatorio, where guests will have the opportunity to meet and converse with the visiting artists. There will also be an opening night reception on Monday 11th May and closing night reception on Sunday 17th May, which will take place immediately following the first and last night’s films respectively, complete with authentic Greek appetizers, drinks and music at the Delancey Street Screening Room.
